Teaching Tips

Start with first name only

Focus on the first name before adding the last name. Mastering a shorter word first builds confidence and motor memory.

Capital then lowercase

Teach the first letter as uppercase and the rest as lowercase from the start. This is the correct convention and prevents re-learning later.

Big paper first

Start with large lined paper or even a whiteboard before moving to standard worksheets. Bigger movements are easier for developing muscles.

Make it meaningful

Label their artwork, write their name on gifts, put their name on their door. Seeing their written name in context shows why writing matters.
