Teaching Tips

Start with primary colors

Begin with red, blue, and yellow. Once those are solid, introduce green, orange, and purple as colors you can make by mixing.

Color throughout the day

Name colors during daily routines: "You are wearing a blue shirt," "Let's eat the red apple." Constant exposure builds recognition.

Sort by color

Give your child a pile of toys, crayons, or snacks and ask them to sort by color. Sorting reinforces color names and categories.

Play I Spy

"I spy something green!" This classic game is perfect for practicing color identification in any setting.
